6 Signs Your Extensions Are Ready for a Refresh

The Ramaya Hair Team

Good human hair extensions last a long time if you take care of them, but nothing lasts forever. Here's what we tell customers to watch for.

1. The texture feels different from the rest of your hair

If your extensions have started feeling drier or coarser than your natural hair, even after conditioning, that's wear that styling products can't fully fix anymore.

2. Shedding has picked up noticeably

A little shedding is normal with any hair extension over time. A lot, especially near the wefts, usually means it's time to replace rather than repair.

3. The clips don't grip like they used to

We covered clip fixes in an earlier post, but if you've already tried cleaning and reshaping and it's still slipping, the clip mechanism itself has likely worn out.

4. Colour has faded or shifted

Human hair extensions can lighten slightly with sun exposure and washing over months. If the shade match to your natural hair is now noticeably off, it'll show more than you'd think.

5. It's been over a year of regular wear

Even with great care, daily or near-daily wear puts a lot of handling stress on any hairpiece. A year to eighteen months is a fair general lifespan for well-maintained clip-ins.

6. You just don't reach for it anymore

Sometimes it's not about damage at all — your hair goals or style might have simply changed. That's a good reason to come in and see what's new, too.

If you're not sure whether yours needs replacing or just a deep condition, bring it into the showroom and we'll take a look for free.
